Look for a new wellness program for families at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel called Fit for Fun. It pays homage to the hotel’s location next to the beach just south of the Santa Monica Pier and overlooking the original location of Muscle Beach. The goal is to get your family outdoors and exploring the beach’s 26-mile paved strand and world-famous outdoor workout equipment.  Fit for Fun includes yoga classes and Rings and Swings Playtime on Muscle Beach; culinary tours of Santa Monica Farmers’ Market with Chef Keith Roberts; adventure bike rides; guided hikes through the Santa Monica Mountains; jogging tours; surfing and stand-up paddle lessons and indoor fitness classes, including Hula Hoop Fitness, Spinning, Pilates and Zumba.  Loews also wants you to save on your spring break. Children 12 and under eat for free at Ocean and Vine and Blue Streak restaurants.

Upgrades at The Homestead

The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. is embarking on a multifaceted $25 million transformation. With work already underway and set to be complete this summer, the resort will debut a new spa, waterpark, restaurants and minigolf course.  The new spa will integrate geothermal spring waters and will also feature an outdoor spa garden. Walking paths kept warm through radiant heat will lead to a therapeutic geothermal mineral bath and neighboring river reflexology bed. Allegheny Springs, the two-acre family adventure and water park area, will be fueled by water drawn from the Allegheny Mountains. It will include Mountain Rush with three 100-foot water slides and a 400-foot lazy river. There will also be winding footpaths, a separate family pool and whirlpool, and interactive amusements for your children including a sandy beach.  Two new dining options will be added to the resort as well and the new Mini Cascades golf course is modeled after the resort’s Cascades Course, for all skill levels to play.

Skamania Lodge in the Columbia River Gorge is offering a series of family events and indoor and outdoor activities for Spring Break designed to suit all age groups.The lodge has set up its own Cake Wars, inspired by the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” with contestants competing for the best-designed cakes. Cake War competitions will be held on Saturday, March 24, and Saturday, March 31. The cost is $10 per cake.  In addition, guided hikes by U.S. Forest Service staff are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For children, storytelling is offered on Friday and Saturday nights from March 24 through April 7. The lodge’s game room will be up and running daily from March 23 to April 8, offering such games as foosball, air hockey, Wii, table tennis and more. Surrounded by the waterfalls, peaks, forests and canyons of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Skamania Lodge is an all-season mountain resort located 50 minutes east of Portland, Ore., in Stevenson, WA.  The property also features golf, spa, gym, indoor pool, tennis, bike rentals and several dining options.  The gorgeous Columbia River Gorge region offers an array of outdoor adventures year round.

Adventures by Disney unveiled a new Southern California group excursion called Lights…Camera…Magic! which can be added to your Disneyland vacation (including room only reservations). Immerse your family in the magic of Disney and the history of Hollywood. You will live the Disney legacy beginning with a special tour of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. The story of The Walt Disney Company comes to life as you tour the historic Studio Lot, explore the Disney Archives, shop at the Studio Store and enjoy lunch at the Studio Commissary.  Then go behind the scenes for a private visit to the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater or the Kodak Theater, home to the Academy Awards, and explore Hollywood Boulevard. From February 5-9, 2012, children ages 6-18 can attend a Broadway show in New York City for free with a full price adult ticket.  Local restaurants are also “getting into the act” by offering free entrees for children dining with an adult.  Participating shows for Kids Night on Broadway include Spider Man-Turn off the Dark, Godspell, Sister Act, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Wicked and more.  You are also invited to attend a pre-theater party to kick off the event at Madame Tussauds on February 7 where your children can meet cast members from Broadway shows, participate in fun activities and explore the famous attraction. Nick Jonas is the national ambassador for Kids’ Night on Broadway 2012 and will soon appear in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying beginning January 24.
